NYSUT STATEWIDE-ENDORSED CANDIDATES

Kathy Hochul
Through our partnership with Governor Kathy Hochul, NYSUT has secured some of our biggest victories for schools, students and our members. Hochul has worked with NYSUT throughout our ongoing Fix Tier 6 campaign, which has lowered retirement ages, increased pensions and made public service more attractive to combat teacher shortages. Together, we also established distraction-free learning environments by removing cellphones during the day, giving our kids the freedom to be kids and grow. The governor has signed into law landmark child online safety protections, our classroom heat law to keep educators and students safe during the hottest months, fully funded Foundation Aid, and signed a bill banning outside groups from impersonating unions to deceive members.

CD 8 Hakeem Jeffries
Attorney General Letitia James is a strong supporter of NYSUT and a vocal advocate of fixing Tiers 5 & 6. She has joined several other attorneys general across the nation in lawsuits against tech companies like Meta and TikTok for their addictive algorithms and harm they have caused to our children. James has been instrumental in the passage and implementation of several laws aimed at protecting children online. She also led the fight to challenge the new Public Service Loan Forgiveness rules, allowing millions of public workers to continue to qualify for student loan relief.
CD 13 Darializa Avila Chevalier
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has long been a friend to NYSUT and our members, and backs our Fix Tier 6 campaign as a faithful and competent steward of our state’s pension systems. He holds a deep understanding of the needs of students, educators and families extending back to his days as a trustee on the Mineola Board of Education. DiNapoli has aggressively fought public corruption and the misuse of taxpayer dollars and has spoken out against fiscal gimmicks and government inefficiency.
